Hey guys, i've hit a bit of a speedbump here, i've narrowed down what i'd like to spend my money on. Note: comments on the items would be a plus :D

Here they are:

  • iPhone
  • Apple Macbook
  • A 22" Widescreen monitor
  • A new Graphics card

The last two aren't really a major thing seen as i have a monitor and only really play games like CSS,BF2,TF2 which all run perfectly on high, so graphics and monitor aren't a big hit at the moment..

Now, i haven't really had a new phone for quite a few years, would the iphone be the way to go?

Ah, the macbook. I've been checking out prices etc for one and it seems reasonable, i hope to activate myself into photography editing and video editing and music editing very soon. Another thing is, At the moment i'm a student, i checked on apple's site and they do student discounts but that only appears to be only allowing schools or college's in the USA. I know you can't give out exact sites of where i can buy one from if i were to take that path but is there any places other than the apple site to buy off?

Thanks guys, comments and ideas are welcome.

Note: i can only choose one of those bullet points.

if you want to be editing surely a macbook wouldn't be as good as a nice quad core pc with a lot more cpu power for all the decoding.

also what is your current spec and monitor. pritty hard to answer a question without knowing what you have in the first place!

Personally, I'd get a new graphics card, but if you're still on a 4:3 CRT, then I'd grab a 22" 16:10 TFT :)

At the moment i'm on a Q6600, 17" LCD Monitor with a 8600GT Card

I know the card isn't amazing but for my needs it's great :P

Then why do you need a mac book? the only reason you are buying it is because you want something new to play with when the q6600 will be far more quicker at the decoding if you want to get into editing seriously. Plus the I phone is more of a gimic for those that like new toys and like everyone else to know about them. They are impractical to type on over a normal phone and i cant see why i need the internet everywhere with me tbh.

I would say get a new screen. 17" is tiny and when you get a new one you will never be able to go back. Although you do try out dual screening too. However i wouldn't recomend that graphics card for it so youd need more power. A 8600 is going to struggle playing games at 20" or 22" which is what you really should be aiming at :p but if you get 22" youll just want 24! lol.

I was just thinking about a macbook because i travel around a lot and obviously i can't lurk the main rig with me, and i thought it would be good for college etc, It was more looking into on the go mac with some garageband and realbasic.

If i was the upgrade the monitor as you said i'd have to get a new graphics card also. So atm with the student discount the macbook is £650. The graphics card being a 512mb 8800GTS [http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-059-BG&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=927] and this monitor: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-050-SA

So i guess getting a monitor and graphics card for around £400 which could work :D

I'd say avoid the iphone at all costs, so many problems with being tied to 1 network, apple themselves sending out updates that kill the phone etc.

I think a new graphics card and monitor is the way to go. personally i wouldn't want to go down the TN pannel route. its for gaming mostly as the viewing angels arn't good but the response time is. Also they quite oftern suffer from back light bleed it would appear. I my self am going to be getting the Benq FP241W soon when money comes it but its at £460 quid and is a 24". Its an incredible monitor though and you could do that monitor and the graphics card and be still around 650 quid. You wouildn't go back after 24" and would probably get into gaming a lot more. Might be best to go for a GTX though. Although they may do 22" monitors.

try not just looking at ocuk, they dont stock all the monitors you can buy and benQ are very good monitors indeed.

here is a review from 2006 there is a new september 07 model out with fixed 1:1 mapping and some other improvements. But im trying to check up on this before i buy as i just started a thread my self.
