Just made an spear of the moment visit to a certain high street software vendor, hadn't meant to buy anything, but I came out with some bargains. Cryostasis, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC, and Splinter Cell Double Agent - none of which I have played before.

Which to play first...

I'd love to give Cryostasis a go, just because it looks so inventive and fresh. In fact, I might go look for it myself :p

I think Stalker SoC is a fantastic game, though some aren't fond of it. Cryostasis was a novel idea but I didn't really find it enjoyable.

Stalker out of those 3 i'd say, great atmosphere and gameplay + lots of mods for gameplay and visual improvements!

I enjoyed Cryostasis,I thought the flashbacks were a novel idea and worked well, main problem with the game though is that in certain areas it runs like a 3 legged dog! Played it at 1920X1200 on a GTX 280 and [email protected],at times the framerate was in the teens, lowering in game quality settings didn't seem to result in any improvement either. I still enjoyed it though, and even if you can't find a way around the framerate dips it's still worth a play.

Played Double Agent on the 360 and thought it was decent, apparently the PC version on release was buggy as hell though, but maybe by now thats been sorted via patches.

A good trio of games mate,I reckon you'll enjoy 'em all.

I have installed Stalker, and really looking forward to getting into it. Figured I'd patch it straight to the latest version, but having downloaded the installer, it claims it can't find an installation of the game?

Anyone know if it requires each patch consecutively perhaps??

Also downloaded the mod mentioned earlier...

I'm an idiot. I downloaded the Clear Skies patch.

That mod doesn't work though sadly. CTD after the developer splash screens etc. Shame. I'll look for some others...

I have Cryostasis and I like it quite a lot and it is a little different. Quite atmospheric though atm I'm stuck... (potential spoiler below).......

on the first spiderboss.

I've tried splinter cell games before and they just didn't do it for me at all :(

SOC is very good, level necked with FO3, best games I've played since Deus Ex.

Nope, UBIsoft officially abandonned that game and it's still buggy as hell. If you're (the op) still intent on playing it then be careful about saving games, paricularly on the beijing level, as any saving on some levels can result in a crash further down the line.

Struggled to get to the end of this game but there was abug where nothing happened after I got to a certain point. It was one bug too far and I threw the game away having unsuccessfully tried to get my money back.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. however is a great game and would be the one I'd recoomend playing first.

:)
Strange the mod worked for me fine, looks out for some more mods then, they're worth it.
Look up SWO v3.0 (Stalker Weather Overhaul) and Sound Overhaul v1.07 to start with.

STALKER, just playing it through again slowly with the mod linked above. The only thing that combo mod doesn't have which I'd like to have seen is the mod that gave the NPCs the ability to loot corpses or pickup items they find, which is a shame as that sounds immersive, but the mod really adds to STALKER in it's own way, as it's a pack of some of the best upgrades and tweaks, I still need to check the mods menu actually.

Tis a little buggy, and save often as it's hard near the beginning with that mod (H&K > merc suit :() but its got a great atmosphere, for example I was just wandering around at night, and suddenly had to hide (stop moving, light off, no noise etc) as a patrol party of bandits ran past (about 10 of em) and began battle royale'ing with a party of stalkers camped in the scrap yard... which if I manage to survive after work I'll be running to loot the corpses :D
Silenced pistolling and surviving the entire military patrol at the bridge near the beginning was tense too, luckily as I was moving slowly they weren't 100% were I was and I managed to get em all and nick all thier stuff ;)

Awesome game, if you can get into it.
