Hey all.

Following this thread last year...

...I need tyres all round on my 2007 MK2 Focus.
I do 20k per year and spend 80% of my driving on the noisy rippled concrete surface of the A50.

Last year's choice was Goodyear Efficient Grip on the front.
Backs I have Michelin Primacy HP iirc.

My fronts are down to 3mm and the rears 4.5mm.

Go for these?

I will be honest I have no idea how much tread these tyres had new, so may be I could leave the backs for a bit?

At 4.5mm the rears will be fine for a while longer yet, ideally you should change somewhere between 2.5mm and 3mm remaining (1.6mm being the legal limit).

If the Goodyears were ok (decent grip, acceptable road noise) then stick to them? How many miles have you covered on them?

Might be worth swapping the rears to the front, and putting the new tyres on the rear. The fronts will then wear out quicker and you can same tyres on all 4 corners (Plus as someone will mention, it reduces the possibility of oversteer by putting your best tyres at the rear)

Wanli, sunew and linglongs are the way to go ;)!
I'm not serious, in case you miss the sarcasm

But in all seriousness, I'd leave the backs if they are newish ( not dried out), they are fine for a long while still unless you are bombing it through the corners and doing e-brakes every day. At 2mm at front I'd consider buying new A brand tyres, but from the A brands, the cheaper ones will do, Dunlop SP Sport series or so. Anything more on a focus seems overkill for me.

Then again, I drive on 4 different tyres from the scrappy and only replace em below 1.6mm so I'm used to having rubbish grip.

Afaik new summer tyres are usually 8mm when new. At 4.5 mm on the rear and a new set on the front, they will probably still outlast the fronts on a fwd car.

if you want decent grip and quieter road noise, then the Goodyear performance efficient grip

if you don't mind the noise, continental Sport Contact 5 or what I had last was the Dunlop blue response which I know are excellent in grip
