Pops needs 2 new tyres for his S-type. He likes to make progress, but also doesn't want a tyre that's noisier than the P6000s really. I suggested the F1s straight away, but I'm concerned that they might be too noisy. He will still have Pirelli P6000s on the front, but may change all 4, he hasn't decided yet.

Basically, narrowed it down to the following options:

Avon ZZ3 - £199 for 2
Goodyear F1s - £219 for 2
Michelin Pilots - £250 for 2
Pirelli P-zeros - £300 for 2

Opinions appreciated :)

Size is 235/50/17! Really silly size.

The Michelins above are the Pilot premacys.

The Sp2s are actually £275 for 2, so another £25.

Seems like the SP2s are winning so far - are they really worth £55 over the F1s?

What about Goodyear Excellence? Seems to be a tyre aimed more or less exactly at Motorway using Jaguar owners. PS2's are the most over-rated tyre in the entire world and priced accordingly - not bad, infact, very good tyres, but not any better than the competition from Bridgestone and Goodyear yet massively more expensive.

Bleh - he does naff all mileage - about 6000/year and little of that is on the motorway.

Just heard that my uncle may be able to get him Bridgestone RE050s at stupid cheap price (he paid £300 for 4 for his 530i) so how would these compare?

I really really disliked the P6000's I had matey. They offered very poor grip and I found noisier than the replacements, Goodyear Hydragrips.

These along with goodyear Excellence or Eagle NCT5 would be worth considering imo.

I can't find any of the above tyres in the awkward size :(

I'll find out about the bridgestones. The P6000s are awful, so I'll persuade him to change all 4 :p

Hi mate. Apologies for digging an old thread out like this, but mum's S-Type needs all 4 tyres replacing. Which tyres did you end up going for? Tyre size is 245/40/18

Eagle NCT5 would be worth considering imo.

I have NCT5's on my Passat, was a good balance for price as I didnt want to pay out the £40 extra per corner I was quoted for SportContacts that were already on it. They're quieter and I do like to burn it a bit but with 130BHP and only commuting to work on the A127 whats the difference LOL :(

(thats a sad lol by the way....*cries*)
