Which tyres should I get

I've got a Civic VTI-S and it needs 2 new front tyres.
Im currently using Toyo Proxie T1-R's and they are nice and grippy but far too soft as i've barely gotten a year out of them.
I'm looking to get something a bit harder compound without loosing too much performance.

My local stockist has the following

Goodyear F1 Eagles
Pirelli's
BF Goodrich
Michelin
Avon
Toyo (which i dont want again!)
then onto cheaper like hankook/khumo etc...

Which of the above would be the best brands to go for? not sure of the individual model names of each tyre but they are 205/40/17's (and excuse the spellings lol)
Thanks

Don't neccessarily limit yourself to your local stockest.
www.etyres.co.uk for example will come out to you and fit the tyres you purchase and they are usually cheaper than local stockests.

If you can find them, Bridgestone Potenza RE10s were always my tyre of choice for the civic. The only issue was that they wore out fairly quickly (lucky to get more than 10k out of a front set).

I know other people swear by F1's, but I was never that impressed when I had them on.

Although I don't own a performance car, I like Michelin Sport Contact II tyres.

Do you like Michelen Pilot Sport II or Continental Sport Contact II as you've managed to mix two tyres into one there. And neither fit your Golf?

eagles are grippy as anything but at a cost, i fitted mine in Feb, they are almost at the legal limit now  That's on a TDCi mondy and probs about 7K miles

(haven't told my lass yet, she'll go mental :D)

The F1s on my T4 last about 12k for the front and 17-20k for the rear and that gets abused all the time(grang prix starts not wheelspins). Cant see how a Mondy can eat them that quick, are you tyre pressure, tracking etc all correct?

Mondeos eat front tyres. It's comical really if it wasnt so expensive. 10k a set for F1's on the front of the Mondeo yet the ones on the back of the 530 will easily surpass that..

You dont drive the 530 hard enough. :p

I'm just about getting 10k out of my Avon ZZ3's on my Mondeo. Its rather annoying, living in/near MK (roundabouts - Fun and addictive but £££ on tyres :() and with them being, what, £90 a corner! :(

Meh

i think maybe the torque from the TDCi is having an effect on them coz the mondy is virtually pulling all the way upto 60/70 (whatever speed i'm getting upto), especially keeping in the (narrow) power bands. I doubt i'll see 10k out of mine, they are literally a couple of mm off the limit.
I might go back to the dunlops that were on before as i got much more out of them.

I had continentals on there originally and they were pretty good. I then moved to Avons for some strange reason, but they don't last that long. They are quite sticky though. I'd love to compare them to the likes of Toyo or Goodyear Eagle F1s

My toyo t1 r's have done a year, and maybe 15k miles. So i guess they're not too soft after all, as I have been pretty hard on them round corners. Im past the boy racer wheelspin at every junction stage so they don't get totally abused like many other tyres.
The toyo is a good tyre, much better than the nankang ditch finders i have on the back of the car. They came with the car though so i'm gonna stick them on the front and the new tyres on the back.
I had decided on either the F1 Eagles or the Avon ZZ3's but after hearing that they are also pretty soft i'm thinking i'll go try out the Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 i think it's called... on a tyre review site it had 4.5/5 for life and 4.5/5 for grip... the only tyre in the test to come out with high ratings for both life and grip.
There were loads of tyres tested from all the big names, and that one was classed as the best high performance road tyre in its group.
