Which VA?

So I am sick of IPS glow (and backlight bleed), and have been suitably impressed by my VA paneled 40" tv, that I want to move to a VA monitor.

Whilst Samsung's 21:9 offerings look lovely, they are way too expensive, especially as the cheaper 29" loses me some vertical pixels, and comes in £100 more expensive than my tv was!

So my options appear to be limited to the BenQ BL3200PT and the Samsung S32D850D, which give me the same res and a size upgrade over my 27" 1440p IPS.

The question is, which one is better?

Gaming is what I am looking for, as the glow and BLB when playing dark parts of The Witcher 3 are annoying me now.

Had the BenQ, found it fine for gaming but I got rid of it in the end because it was just too big for general desktop stuff for me - found myself getting a sore neck from moving my head just to see different points of the screen.

A good big desk and decent eyesight should mean this isn't a problem for most people.

Can't comment on the Samsung, never owned one.

What I would say is that I have the 27inch version of the Sammy and although it's PLS and not VA I found the glow to be significantly less than any IPS monitors I have used.

I know they're effectively the "same" technology but I did a side by side comparison while watching Gravity and the dark scenes were by a mile darker and more realistic on the Samsung than the Dell I had beside it.

Only concern I have with the Samsung 32 VA is that there do seem to be a few complaints about vertical banding on the screen but again I can't comment personally on this.

The build quality for the Samsung is top notch though, it seems a fairly robust unit - the downside being it weighs a ton - and that's only the 27 version!

I have the BenQ and it's a great monitor but as GMac11 said it's kinda big for general desktop usage. I did get used to it in the end but if I didn't get it for an insanely cheap price (330) I would've looked at the 27'' IPS G/FSync options instead but most are too expensive or not out yet. Atm there's not enough choice so that simplifies the decision somewhat.

They're both the same screen made by BenQ A.K.A AUOptronics so the only difference is warranty support and having "Samsung" or "BenQ" written on them.

27" IPS is regarded as the best for image quality right now until OLED replaces LCD.
A glossy panel with minimal BLB and glow is as good as it gets but few are glossy and even fewer have no BLB or glow.

I don't play multiplayer fps, so lag isn't a concern for me. I just want blacks as good as my tv :(

Ok but it makes a difference in single player as well, altho shud be just about acceptable for single player if you are not picky about it.

You will not notice the input lag unless you play on 144hz TNs. And certainly not in games that aren't twitch FPS games.

I've had and tested all kinds, so I speak from experience.
