i currently have 1gb of ddr2 bog standard ram. I need some better stuff but not at a break the bank price. Not looking to spend over £80 really. Any suggestions for some good ram under this price?

cheers

what type of memory/brand and speed do you have at present? What ram modules are on the stick? Have you tried clocking it? I am runnning a 1 gig stick of pc4200memory at over pc6400 speeds.

i have got a 1gb samsung ddrII 533mhz 4200 i think. Does that make sense?

The samsung is decent memory, push the volts a little to say 2.1v set to cas5 5-5-15 and see how high it goes. Nothing to loose and you might be surprised. I have been very surprised my stick of Kingston value ram hitting pc6400+ speeds.

Yea its really lucky sometimes, have had BH-5 that would'nt even do 210 with good voltage, yet my 2.8PIV rig at 3.4 has Hynix cheapo ram at 243MHz 2.5 3 3 6 at stock 2.6 volts

one thing ive been looking at, upgrading ram from what it is, i know how to oc a CPU but how do you go about oc'ing the ram ?
The ram speed is determined by the cpu's fsb, so overclocking the cpu will automatically overclock the ram.

If you have a cpu at 200fsb with 1:1 cpu/ram divider, your ram would be running at 400Mhz (200x2). If you raise the fsb to 220, the ram speed rises to 440 (220x2).
If your BIOS settings are on auto, then your mobo might change the divider when you raise the fsb, to prevent the ram from being clocked past it's rated speed. If the divider was changed to 4:3 at 220fsb, the ram would run at 330 (2x165).

You can set the divider manually to force the ram to be overclocked. Then it's a matter of juggling between highest cpu clocks and best ram timings
