I want to finally try Win 8 out, especially as 8.1 is coming soon. Not sure which copy i should be getting. I will almost certainly be wanting to take it off one machine and put it on another, during ownership.

Also, I'm not a fan of the upgrade. Would like to be doing a clean install, rather than an upgrade.

Should I be getting

Microsoft Windows 8 Pro - Upgrade

or

Windows 8 System Builder OEM DVD 64-Bit

You can transfer an upgrade license if the machines have a pre-existing license to upgrade from. Otherwise, the new System Builder license is transferable.

If you're more interested in 8.1 than 8.0 (which you probably should be at this stage) it might be worth waiting to see if they do a launch offer again - it might save you a couple of quid.

Thanks so how would you transfer the license on Win8 ?

Install it, and call them up when it says license is already in use ?

Probably go with oem system builder, since i'd want to go with a clean install. Unless you can do a clean install on the upgrade via a registry trick? like i did on the Win7 upgrade

I haven't done it with the new system builder version personally but it is possible - since there is no full retail version any more the terms were relaxed a little.

Again, haven't done it personally but I believe it is possible to do a clean install with upgrade media.
