I am sorting out some new pc's for a local school. Could someone tell me which version of Windows 7 supports Workgroups as until they can replace them all there will still be some XP based machines running.
It would seem XP doesn't support Home Groups though. But by the sounds of it Home Premium might meet there needs rather than having to pay the extra for Professional.
He said Workgroups. It is the standard mode for Windows when not in a domain. You wont have a problem with Windows 7 talking to XP machines, if you need to share files between them. You just need to make sure they have the same Workgroup name. This is something you set up during installation.
HomeGroups are a Windows 7 only feature that makes sharing simple. Worth looking into for when all your machines are Windows 7.
