Ok bare with me.

My Wife's laptop recently hard a hard disk failure, I replaced it with an SSD I had. Then tried to boot of a USB flash drive with Windows 8 Pro 64Bit installer on it. It didn't work, I assumed it was because my media had been messed up.

So I used the download link from a Windows 8 confirmation email, which downloaded the media. However, I do not have any idea whether its 32bit or 64bit.

The download link was from an email that was generated form running update adviser on a 32bit machine. I entered that key when requested.

However, I ran the download and created the media on my own computer which has Windows 8 64bit on it.

Question is which version downloaded? Also if I have the 32bit version how do I get the 64bit media back as running the download link again somehow knows I have already downloaded it so won't let it run again.

Check the size of the folder (or image file if you opted to create one) that was created after the download (or the how much has been used on a flash drive).

If the size is 2GB on the dot then you have the 32-bit version and if it is larger then you have the 64-bit version (just make sure that you have all hidden files and folders visible as the folder it dumps the files to is hidden).

I got my answer by installing it to see what happened. Its 64bit :) I did find an article about it on the web to that confirms its based on the computer you download it on nothing to do with the key or the computer you bought it on originally.
