Which VGA to DVI adapter do I need

You sure about that model number?

This page: http://www.dell.com/lt/business/p/dell-p2414h/pd#TechSpec

Suggests it doesn't have HDMI at all.

Yeah that's the right model - I meant I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable

Then just use the DisplayPort from the Graphics card?

How when I've only got a VGA spare - Is their another way I can do it

If that is the correct monitor, then it has the following ports.

Connectivity

1 Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP
1 Video Graphics Array (VGA)
1 DisplayPort (version 1.2a)
4 USB 2.0 ports ( 3 downstream ports, 1 upstream port)

This is why VincentHanna is suggesting you use a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable.

If your monitor doesn't have a DisplayPort connector, then the model that VincentHanna posted the link too isn't the correct one.

As others have said, DP-DP is the answer you're after assuming that's your monitor.

For future reference you want to say the cable in the order of 'source - destination' so if HDMI on the console end, DVI on the monitor then it's an HDMI to DVI cable etc, not a DVI to HDMI otherwise you can easily end up with the wrong adaptors (active ones have a direction, ones where it just changes the connector shape are fine either way - for this specific example it doesn't matter too much but once VGA is mixed in it certainly does matter)

VGA is never the answer. It's obsolete and undesirable, you'd be adding delay to get a worse image that is more susceptible to interference.

Edit: If you can't find the DisplayPort one it's next to the (white) DVI-D input, the opposite side to the (blue) VGA connection - it's a port that goes inwards, not like the sticking out ones for VGA & DVI, more like USB though a different shape.
