Im using windows 7 and want to eventually setup a few VM's to have a virtual network on the go to help with studying for my Microsoft Exams.

I'm just not sure which software to use, ive used the microsoft option but heard of vurtualbox and vmware. whats the general concesus?

yeah and my middle finger is here, and raised.

ive already read that thread which i why i asked the question, because im looking to get a full blown virtual network with numerous servers and clients working not just a few standalone machines, thats why i asked in case some piece of software like VMWare was better suited than that.

yeah sorry i realised i was in the wrong place but cant for the life of me see how to delete the post.

Did you re-install the forum after that software problem last week? If not, you may need to run an update and/or re-install it now for the deletion button to reappear.

thanks Azagoth, ill do that right now.

I see your interests are "Aircraft and Computers", thats cool cos me too! thats right i'm a loser virgin too, maybe sometime we can get together and discuss aircraft and maybe go to an aircraft museum or browse wikipedia together and admire some really cool aircraft, im a big fan of the 747's myself. I bet you're more of a Lancaster Bomber man aren't you?

Oh and whats your "rig" spec and best 3d mark score cos i bet you've got those written down on a piece of paper in your wallet ready to bust out on the ladies when you occasionally venture outside haven't you?

^ lol ... indeed the 'reinstall the forum' joke got old a loooong time ago. Like reinstalling the internet.

(my post is solely aimed at the forum joke - not at Azagoth :) )

Your a bit defensive for someone whos come on here asking for some help with 15 posts, chill.

On topic MS Virtual PC seems to do the job for me networking works well, its free just download it and experiment, no loss if it wont do what you want.

lol andymanis, you have much to learn glasshoppa! :p :D Post in the correct sub-forum, and you'll find lots more help. Personally, I prefer VirtualBox.

maybe so but i just wanted a helpful response, instead i first get the "look, heres the search button" line and told to read a thread which id already seen and decided didnt help me all too much and had spent a few minutes already flicking over some other search results and didnt find a clear enough answer in my opinion to warrant not starting a new post.

Then upon realising id posted in General Discussion by accident and doing the unthinkable and for a moment there thinking that there could actually be a "delete thread" option, i get some nerd giving it thinking hes billy big balls.

And im sorry i didnt realise the number of posts you've made determines how much help you can expect.

On topic, thanks for the response, although i wanted to avoid downloading and testing each one individually, but on another post it seems VirtualBox seems to pretty popular from what ive heard so im probably go with that as i was originally thinking VMWare was going to be better suited for what i wanted to do.

i do like a good rant tho, ill leave you gents in peace now.

VMWare server offers great flexibility in teh networking area, host only, natted or bridged allows the VMs to be controlled really well.

Gets my vote.

I use microsoft virtual PC 2007, it does what i need it to do so i'm happy with that :)

I've tried using VirtualBox and although it is definitely faster than virtual pc 2007 i found it to be quite unstable, i seem to be the only person who seems to suffer from stability issues with VirtualBox though...
