hi guys just wondering which vista should i get ,,building a new duo 2 pc for gaming ,,

all i do is download films burn em to dvd and play games
i.e css,,fear combat and ut2007 when it comes out.

and if i get 32 bit with 64 bit upgrade does it mean i get the full version of the 32 bit vista whith the option to upgrade to 64 bit when i want to.

also it going on a new hd .

thanks in advance blue p:) ;)

When I used Windows XP SP2 OEM for my dad and i changed motherboard 2 or 3 times with different motherboard version but same made (Gigabyte) - from Via to Nvidia chipset and type my dad same name during installation and it went through fine after reactivation (I did forgot to type my dad name in different one as activation wont complete but phoned MS to get new Keys as it accepted) - Ive reinstalled and reactivation my dad PC about 6-8 times that went smooth without problems that included upgrade new hard drives. Once I get Windows Vista then I wont upgrade motherboard for at least 6-7 years time cos my board still great as Im happy with it. I think Vista may in different one as MS already put new Activation 2.0 - that would different from XP

Sorry to hijack thread but im also wondering about which to go for.

Im the same, mostly play games.

Few things i would like to know tho, will standard harddrives still be ok for vista or is it all going SATA these days?

My system atm:

MSI 975X PowerUp Edition Mobo
Intel E6700
2GB G.Skill Memory
BFG 8800GTX
2x standard harddrives 1=120GB & 1=80GB.

Im thinking about going for the 32bit/64bit ultimate combo one but maybe i wont need it as i only play games and do some video editing.

Thanks for clearing things up :p

There is lagacy support for PATA HDDs and tbh Home Premium is probably a better choice than ultimate, unless you need remote desktop.

I'd go with Home Premium 64-bit- no point going 32 now as most 32-bit software will run fine on a 64-bit OS :)
Ummmm after reading the last few posts over the weekend i,m thinking that better be written in a contract ! its looking like a wish to me ..x64 or x32 lets see on the 2nd Feb lol

I'm going for the home premium but totally confused whether to get the 32 or 64-bit version.

I want to get vista 64-bit, but i've read articles that say to get the 32-bit os even if you have 64-bit hardware.

Two interesting articles elaborate on the problems of the 64-bit os at the moment :

yes i agree with you ,i think its early to go x64 yet ,might run x32 until its really settled ,plus the retail price is down too ;)
