Which watch to get?

I gather there is already a "what watch do you own thread" but save clogging up that thread. I'm looking around the £200 mark. Firstly, what do people recon to the quality of Christopher Ward watches?- a lot of people seem to have reccommended them... Secondly what do people think of these 2 watches:

http://www.christopherward.co.uk/men/dive/c6/c6sks.html C6

http://www.christopherward.co.uk/c4ipk.html C4

I think they're both veyr nice watches, although im unsure about the black C4, unfortunately thats the only C4 left on sale, and i either pay £130 for the black, or £240 for the plain stainless steel (which i think looks slightly nicer). (however £110 for a different "colour" is a bit of a kick in the crotch)

I have a thin wrist, so would would either of those look disproportionate?/ esp the black one?... and also, how does black PVD wear?.. does it flake off, or scratch, does it age better than stainless steel?....

they've put re-sizing inthe options now, which was on of my main concerns. THe watch is bulky, im just wandering whether its too bluky for my wrist.. hmm..... also.. The site claims that the quality of the watches match those far above it's prices, is this true?

I bought an Armani watch for £230 the other day and it is the business! Never look back worth every penny!

the armani watches are very nice,( is it the leather one?) .. i'm still undecided, firstly i'm not too happy ordering a watch i can't try one (although there is a good returns policy), and i'm unsure about the C4, great price, but theres so few pictures of the black c4 its really hard to make a decision. THe c6 looks great too. I'm looking at the christopher ward watches because they seem to be of very good quality- i had a accurist chronograph (around £100) as a bday present maybe 4 years ago, but last year the mechanism broke.. I was originally looking for a watch for my 18th bday, but my mum wanted me to get my accurist fixed instead, and dint want me to get an expensive watch 'cus she thought i might break it at uni. -Hence me looking at some of the cheaper sport/diving watches, rather than some of the very nice aviation/dress watches.

I was just this minute looking at the traser watches :P .. will look into.. Theres a lovely CW aviator automatic, but i'm worried about how chuckable they are and the care they need.. (would be great for a 21st once uni is out the way, and i absolutely love the window on the back, but im concerned i would never wear it, due to it being so nice, and therefore would need one of those windy things)...

links dont work ^^ , plus i dont really have anymore money.. i can only presume those watches you have linked to are £400+ which is out of my range i'm afraid...

While the C4 looks reasonably nice at the moment, i'm conerned its far from a classic look, and therefore, while it may last a long time, I may well not be wearing it for many years... just a thought.. its certainly a different look, i'm undecided tbh, but very tempted by the price.. - I think if it was in stainless steel at the same price i would be buying it now.

^^ Well with your watch collection it would certainly be wise to :P

I like the aviator, but its a watch for a different purpose really.. (yes i await for "oh it doesnt tell the time like the others?!)...

I like the mk1 more than the mk2 actually http://www.christopherward.co.uk/men/aviation/c5av/c5awt.html# .. and before i started seriously looking at watches i did really like everything about old-style pilots watches... hmm decisions decisions...

what does winding them entail? - save me googling :P

Also - to clearly update, im now looking at: Black PVD C4, Black face C6, and the Leather Mk1/2 C5.. ahh i hate decisions

ahh ok thanks very much.. ( i presume the winder is the screw-type thingy on the back..).. Are moving parts visible through the back of the watch?- it had a window, but im unsure to whether any moving pieces are visible- that would be really nice...

Also regarding damaging watches, i guess i am being overly protective, i'm just used to going to school for 7 years where things were likely to get broken/worn out. .. Also about the sale- how often do sales come up, and once all the products on show in the sale section sell out, will that be the sale done?..

thanks very much for all the help and info.. I'm notoriously difficult with decisions, even relitavely simple ones, let alone choosing a watch from such a nice selection.

I'm also looking, temptingly(if thats a word) at the C7 rapide silver bracelt, although thats pushing my budget... or even the C7 leather on sale ....

EDIT- Second update- I think i'ma give the C4 a miss. So i'm looking at the C6, C7( http://www.christopherward.co.uk/watches-sale/mens-half-price/c7swt.html or http://www.christopherward.co.uk/watches-sale/mens-half-price/c7sst2.html ) , or the C5 malvern mk1/2 ....

I can actually get the sale item, and the metal strap for cheaper than the non-sale- metal one. Aka 2 straps for the price of one. I think i like the cream/silver one more than the black/white one.

Yeh, i'm not going to look at the C4 anymore, too much of a fashion watch. I'm looking at C6 or C7 (and slightly the Mk1 aviator) .. and thats interesting to know Rotty^^ ...

also people speak of "quality movements" , how would you tell a watch had a quality movement, if you didnt already know the specs of a watch, and what advantage does a quality movement have?

this was also another watch i had been looking at for a while... http://www.precisiontime.co.uk/vict...-watch-241345-p-6204.html?manufacturers_id=18

-- Pulled up the courage and ordered the C7 rapide sale watch ( black ring, white face, the other one sold out), ordered a bracelet for it aswell. £240, for a watch with 2 straps. I noticed they hiked their prices up aswell, the new C7 is £290 with metal bracelet...(also the C6 went up to £240 ).. Considered the Mk1 aviator, beautiful watch, but for another day methinks... i shall post up pics when i get it :)

I certainly wouldn't argue that the quality is up there with lower end Tags, Omega is a different matter though

ooh also i wondered about this, whether you meant to say i would argue- aka are you saying CW's arn't up with low-end tags, but are with Omegas, or vice versa?...

The watch arrived today. It's nice, and a long shot nicer than any other watch i've ever had, but im not blown away by it (it may grow on me, il give it time, i think its the black ring that annoys me, but it is growing on me, plus i had a crappy nights sleep, so i may just be grouchy). (that is, with the leather strap on). Also the leather strap is too big for my wrist, even on the narrowest setting. I may try to take off the leather strap, and put on the stainless steel one i ordered aswell, (although that will also need links taking out of it). I might put up some pics. Its a very nice watch, but i think some of the reviewers may be on prozac, so im a bit deflated (especially since its too big). I may well send it back and get an aviator instead...

EDIT- had a well needed sleep :P .. the watch is very nice, has a beautiful finish to it. The leather strap is a bit darker than i was expecting, however i've changed my mind on the black bezel ring- i think it looks nice, makes it look more sporty than the other more dressy ones, and may well wear better than i bare SS bezel. I'l try and get the SS strap on asap.
