I am just about to get another phone - and want to get a quick internet, which I'll use for browsing etc when I am away (about 2 in every 10 weeks). I'll use it with my ipaq and/or laptop. Whats the best to go with - I liked the idea of web/walk but cant really understand usage etc - I've been using orange standard on a nokia as a modem - there has got to be a quicker way as its only 28k!

Many thanks

3G will give you up to 56k, but only in supported areas (probably not round yours!) The wifi option is great for speed but requires hotspots - so more web and slurp than web and walk.

Not sure if the price plan on 3G has changed either as they used to charge based on download (hugely expensive - read ripoff) but there was rumour of a move to flat fees which may have arrived)

Basic 3G is 384kbps.

New phones like the Nokia N95 now have HSDPA (3.5G) running at up to 1.8Mbps.

Most 3G services only need a small portion of this to run, since these a theoretical limits and real world speeds are much slower. Video calling only requires a 64kbps connection.

will you have a laptop? ie will you be wanting to us your mobile a s a modem too?

that aside web/walk seems to be the best deal at the moment. 3g speeds are acceptable for net browsing and you dont want to worry about paying per mb
