Which way to go?

Normally, I'd just know what to do, but a bit undecided.

Currently have rig in sig in enthoo primo, but that is essentially just my gaming rig.

I have a separate machine which is fx8350 + 32gb in an sg03 with a bunch of drives which is my vm/dev machine.

As I recently got a mac, which will be used a lot for work purposes, am wondering if should consolidate the desktop pcs and have one major system in my enthoo.

I liked having the two desktops as if one died for whatever reason, I would be without a working work machine. But now that I have the mac, that is not a big issue.

I still like the idea of the 8350 being an always on machine for running servers on. Though perhaps my Microserver can handle that.

But I also need something with lots of sata connectors, having a bunch of drives between both machines.

So my options are
1) simply keep everything as is
2) bring the 8350 into my main machine as it's decent for vm and sell 3770 and get a board like the asrock 990fx extreme 9 with lots of sat 3 connectors.
3) was considering dropping both and going Devils canyon, but now that might be a wait.
4) wait for x99 and consolidate then?
5) just get 4930k now and be done - though I resent the pricing so close to new release

Have spent a ton lately, so would like to keep cost down, but I have learned sometimes is best to fork out as it pays off down the line.

I would just keep it as it is,

The 8350 won't be an upgrade from a 3770k, a downgrade if anything.

keeep the 3770k and get overlcok

put the 32gb ram on the 3770k and let the 8350 do the server
also get a sata expansion ports to pcie as its chaper than buying a mobo

I'd be inclined to agree.

What VMware are you running?

TBH, providing they aren't being used for an enterprise solution, you can get away with a lot less ram on each machine, I not so long ago had a SQL server installation (on 2003 granted) with only 512mb ram allocated, and it worked perfectly for my dev work!

Running VMware workstation 10.

I know a lot of servers will run on a fairly low amount, but my main dev box is a vm on the 8350 machine, plus the main os is win 7. Found that with those and couple servers running 16gb wasn't quit enough .

The 3770k is overclocked by the way. To 4.7 under water. Just feels like a waste having great case with decent water cooling, only for gaming machine, which I won't have much time for a while anyway.

Will consider just leaving things as they are for now. But does feel like so much going to waste currently.

Do some folding :)
