Which way up do you have your PSU?

Mine is like this at the moment:

Upside down, sucking air in from the bottom and putting it out the back.

Is this the best way to do it in a case where it is mounted at the bottom? or would it be better sucking warm air out of the case and putting it out back? I wasn't sure if this would suffocate the GPU so I did it like this.

Thanks,

As long as it has ventilation on the bottom of the case then the fans facing down is the best way as it doesnt mess with the flow. It can obviously vary depending on the setup.

Sweet, the bottom has a dust filter so it can breathe. I like it this way, even though it means it being upside down, because you can't see any of the cables despite it NOT being a modular PSU :) (which I must admit I regret buying now given how much effort I had to make to fit the cables in lol)

Depends if your case has a vent at the bottom and feet....my case has the vent, but no feet...so my psu can't suck air from underneath so i've had to mount mine the otherway with the fan pulling air from inside the case...doesn't seem to be causing any problems..i don't think either way will have any kind of real impact

If you can (vents in bottom) then mount with the fan face down. I once built a system for my girlfriend where had to mount fan face up and dropped a expansion slot screw in there, took me ages to get it out.

The guys have covered the main points already really. Doesn't make much odds, fan down is ok as long as you have the ventilation and dust filters.

Personally if I'm using a windowed case I will mount the PSU fan up. Mounting the PSU fan down however does put the "heavy duty" cables closer to the cable management grommits. This in turn gives you a little more cable to work with and for some cases might mean you don't need to buy a P4/8 extension.

Yeah I can see that being true, mine only just didn't need the extension being like above :)

(I got an extension with my case, but it's nice not to need it)

my case has an inlet with filter in the bottom so i have the fan facing down to suck air in. i was a bit concerned with how little clearance there is for air to get under the case but i can't turn it the other way because the screw holes won't line up. :p

Will depend on the PSU of course as some have shorter cables than others. Some cases do come with an extension that is true, that's always a nice bonus :)

I tend to use the Zalman Z9 U3 a lot for gaming rigs on a budget. Not a perfect case (there is no such thing) but for £50 it comes with a lot of kit. Trouble is the PSU vents in the base of the case aren't great but do have a dust filter. I over look that as it has the side window so it's an excuse to "show off" by mounting the PSU fan up, the supplied extension gives the extra length for cable management anyways.

Nice rig btw bud :)

I'm going to go against the grain here :p the PSU's are installed sideways in both my PC's (I have two Silverstone LC17's) :D

In my shinobi xl, ive got it mounted with the fan facing down. Same when used in my Lian Li A70F, however that case also has the option of top mounting the psu.
