Hello all, i was recently dream building my new computer and was looking at corsair PSU's, one of which was this.....

Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU
£64.61 inc VAT

The other being......

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)
£70.49 inc VAT

Can someone explain to me the difference between the 2, and why the lower power version cost more?
I assume it has something to do with the technology involved, HX & VX?

Also which is a better PSU, or are they both about the same? apart from the abvious power difference.

Looking forward to hearing from you all, ty. :)

The hx psu are modular, so you unplug the extra power connections you dont need when your building your system so it will make a tidier build haveing less cables in your case that are unused.

As Ajwilson20 says the HX series is modular, another difference is that their OEM is Seasonic, for the TX series the OEM is CWT (Channelwall Technologies). Both are quality PSUs but for neatness I'd probably pick the HX 520w.

the difference between the those are mainly the corsair hx 520w psu is modular which means you only have to use the cables you need. so with the corsair tx 620w psu its non modular so you basically have to find some where to hide all the unused cables.

another difference but dont quote me on this as im not sure... the corsair tx/vx is a different make of PSU (cwt i heard...) and the corsair hx 520w/620w is manufactered by seasonic.

if i were you id go with the corsair hx 520w. got one myself and its great.

to sum up, both are great power supplies. if you have a lot of hard drives and dvd drives then may want to get the corsair tx 650w. however i cant recommend enough the corsair hx520w.

EDIT: beat me to it ^^

If I recall, the VX was designed for better value. The two Power Supplies are made by different brands. The HX's are Modular units (can remove cables) made by Seasonic and the TX's by CWT. Both are good units and they're both 80PLUS certified, so they're certainly capable of operating and their respective max outputs unlike some cheaper units.

Other than the fact that one is modular and the other isn't, the HX has three separate 18A +12V lines (max of 40A combined), while the TX has a single 52A line.

Really, they're both very good units and you won't go too wrong with either. I suppose, unless you want a modular unit my vote would go for the TX.

edit - beaten to it :o
