Hi guys, sorry for another spec me thread. I find myself on the wide end of my kit lens a lot doing landscape shots, but it's just so soft at small apertures and on a crop body it is sometimes a bit limited. I'm not too fussed about huge apertures etc as I usually use a tripod, but I just want something sharper (and wider) that allows me to get enough dof without losing too much sharpness. The canon 10-22mm looks nice, but there are quite a few other lenses in this category and they seem to have pretty similar spec. What do you guys use?

I have heard the tokina 11-16 is supposed to be really sharp and has a constant 2.8 aperture but it does have a smaller zoom range and slower autofocus than the canon.

Canon is best bet all round, the tokina 11-16 s good if you are indoors or in general wont use a tripod, I have heard good things about the sigma 8-16mm, ands tht is seriously wide.

Another vote for the Canon EF-s 10-22mm.

Expensive compared to other lenses of a similar range but well built and optically very good.

If you're going to be taking shots of Landscapes then you really don't need fast apertures such as f/2.8. A lot of people swear by the excellent Canon 17-40mm f/4.0, but in your case you clearly want to go wider than 17mm.

If youre going to be taking interior shots where you want to get everything in at a relatively high shutter speed and the light is limited, such as a Concert, then go for a fast Aperture wide lens.

Focus speed isn't that much of an issue when it comes to Landscapes, since most movement occurs over millions of years :) I'm fairly certain that whatever the speed of the different lenses that they will be able to cope.

Just grabbed a Canon 10-22 for £440, absolutely love it.

Can't wait to get out on the weekend and give it a proper spin in the city.
