Hi all

I want to go to windows 7 all i do is game and surf on it so premium is fine i want the 64 bit one but im confused. I reformat a lot maybe once every 6 months so guess i have to go retail rather then oem from what i have read.

is this the one i want

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SW-124-MS&groupid=33&catid=1555&subcat=

im confused as its cheaper then the 64bit oem yet it has both 64 & 32:confused::confused:. I assume i can just pop the disc in a reformat is normal with the above?

The version you linked will be able to just install straight for you, not sure what's up with the pricing.

The price is a special offer until stocks run out, then it will revert back to full price, about £140.00 give or take.

Great thanks am right in saying i can install the retail one as many times as i like on my main rig? should i wish to install on my spare pc downstairs i have to fork out another £77 right?

What happens if i install on the spare pc anyway do i get just 30 days or something and turns off?

second PC = second license, there is no getting around it. You can install it but it won't activate, in short you should have bought the pre-order and you'd have got them both for less than £90!

You should be able to re-install the OEM as many times as you like on the same PC, microsoft removed the 5 time install limit when there was uproar at the idea, the retail one however can be transferred between different PCs, just only used on one at a time. As usual defining a PC as its mobo, so with OEM you can upgrade everything bar mobo no problems, with retail you can keep going til win8 :D

unfortunately when you have a baby not everyone gets to choose when they blow £90 on stuff :(
Anyway thanks

Retail edition is currently a bargain (you say its still cheaper than OEM!) ... though of course it was even more of a bargain at £45 a few months back!

Having had OEM editions with XP and had the issues of whether mboard upgrades really are permissible (lets not start a debate here but it is possible to upgrade and there are various "opinions" on the web to give a possible legal justification for this) the chance to switch to retail at £45 was to good an offer to miss for me.

So if you want win7 don't hestitate and get the retail version before it goes up in price - as someone else mentioned the fact that it is currently cheaper than the OEM is merely an artifact of MS releasing 2 waves of retail packs into the supply chain at special introductory prices to ramp up interest.

I prefer the upgrade though since it's less expensive and allows you a clean install.

I'm not sure what you mean?

The full retail allows you to upgrade install too - and keep all your settings. There's so little difference between the upgrade and the price that OCUK are doing the full retail it's silly to not go for the full thing.

64 bit *RETAIL* so you don't get tied to the OEM license. It's an amazing bargin.

Having said that, I still haven't installed mine yet and using the RC build! :p
