Just throw some water on it, thats sure to fix the problem

Or a H50 or something, btw you have 4 cores, the I3 just has 2 Cores.

What sort of temp is the q9550 hitting at load? Had one of theese at 3.8ghz, with p95 it was only hitting the mid 50's, gaming didnt ever reach as high as that.

What cooler are you using? Perhaps an upgraded cooler and an overclock would help, the q9550 is a far cooler running chip than the older 65nm q6600, had one of those also at 3.8ghz, loaded at 68c max.

C1's do tend to run a few c hotter than EO's, though i still think a better cooler would help.

If you get into music production or 3D rendering then losing those 2 cores will really hurt. I can't really see much logic in downgrading for a single game to be honest.

Friend of mine replaced an artic cooler pro 7 with a tuniq tower and we never saw it go over 55 with a heavy overclock on it.

I'd definitely consider other coolers and proper thermal paste before basically downgrading your cpu which will cost vastly more anyway.
