Which would be faster?

I have used 2xGTX680s in the past and previously owned two GTX970s.
My rough guess would be a single GTX970 (used one on newly released games due to lack of SLI support).
Edit : Looking at older BF3 benchmarks with the GTX680s (40ish FPS at medium @ 6040x1080) the GTX970 (58 FPS BF Hardline @ 4K Medium).
The GTX970 is miles ahead even on a higher resolution and newer game.

Probably the 670s in SLI when scaling well, although I'd still prefer a single 970 over SLI'd 670s.
The reason I ask is because I already have a GTX 670. I can get another second hand for £75.
It would work out cheaper than £300 for a GTX 970.
