bit of a dilemma because i dont want to splurge mass amounts on this when i can concentrate it on things like cpu and gpu, im after an x99 board but im wanting very minimal colour schemes like the msi x99 s sli hard to find a board that dosent look like its aimed at a 12 year old mlg apprentice. will be rendering audio, editing video and most importantly ill be trying out 2k/4k/vr so ive already got a 5930k sorted and ill be getting either a fury x or a 980ti so, can someone help me spec a board. minimal design. decent features. actually just pressed buy on a sabertooth on the forest and i have buyers remorse so bad i want to throw myself off my balcony.

Just be aware if you are planning on using the M.2 slot that quite a few of the Gigabyte boards have slower slots than other brands. So you may want to check that whatever you get using 4 PCIe 3 lanes for up to 32GB/s speeds. Usually branded as Ultra M.2 rather than Turbo or something else.

i dont mind if its e atx or atx, i have been eyeing up a msi x99 ac on the mm, this supports the turbo m,2 as far as i know. but i do like the oc socket on asus, i saw on a linus video that you could get the same clock speed but possibly go down .1 volt.

The Asus X99 are very good but they have strange USB problems. Once my pc has loaded its fine but if I have my Dell displays USB hub plugged in it does not boot, I have to press the reset button to get it to boot. Every BIOS or bit of hardware added changes the USB issue, it’s very strange and a total pain.

Sorry to jump off topic there, well sort of..

I have a Rampage V Extreme, and just recently I have started noticing all of my USB device's will just randomly disconnect and reconnect at the same time.

Seems to only happen once during each boot, but I have only noticed the past few days.

Funny thing, I just got a few dell monitors and I have one of the hubs on them connect to the computer.

Seems that could be the issue, but not sure why devices that aren't connected to it are still dropping out.

Interesting, I've been experiencing exactly the same problems with my Logitech G930 headset. Was going to RMA them, but it sounds like it could be the motherboard

Let us know if you find a fix for this

i do like the features of the asus and i like the oc socket, 0.1 volt can really make a diff with temps. but ive got an airflow 540 and its back and i really dont think the white scheme on the motherboard would match, especially with the red leds i just bought.

Here is a pic of an Air 540 with the Asus X99 in:

I get weird USB too on Asus X99-a.
If i startup a USB device when the PC is already on, it sometimes knocks out all of my USB totally and only a cold boot will then bring me back. I use a Virus TI2 synth and powering up, initialising its USB, problem times begin.

Doesnt happen every single time though. Ive read dozens of people say they have a lot of random USB probs with a large variety of X99 boards, so it dosnt seem limited to a brand, bios etc

The Asus rampage V is a very good solid board, I'm very happy with mine. But a Cheaper board would do just as well the MSI and asus x99-s are nice.
