Which one do you reckon? I game a lot but really just want top sound quality. My sound card quality compared to my Sony mp3 player is laughable, sick of sound blaster garbage.
Are there real advantages of having the higher priced ones over lower? pci-e much better than pci? Would the pci-e card with it's heatsink thing fit in with the gfx card just below? (I'm guessing thats a yes)

Thanks for any help

which motherboard do you have, and which graphics card?

my Xonar DX won't fit in the slot on the right, because of the ram slots..

and my gfx card + fans takes up the other two pci-e slots, so I'm forced to use a pci sound card.

I'd either get the D1 or the D2 (for my situation)

When the D1 was ~£50 (before the £ go so weak) I would have said go for that, but now it's only £20 more for the D2, you get more inputs/outputs with the D2, which makes it more tempting

Also remember the PCI-E versions require an external power connection while the PCI cards do not.

So if you don't like cable clutter that is something to consider.

If you have a spare PCI slot then get the PCI version of the D1/D2. I can't see any reason to pay £40~ more in the case of the D2X compared to the D2.

Got the D2 today :D holy **** how good! I was previously using my Sennheiser HD580s with onboard sound :) my FLAC files sound absolutely stonking now! Although selecting the music preset/dolby headphone makes the music sound rubbish, I just leave it unselected.

Games/Movies/FLAC sound really really nice now, all I need now is for my A2's to arrive.
