Colleague of mine has an S reg Saab 95 2.3t Auto. About 3 months ago the turbo went and was replaced, and since then he has complained of a constant whirring noise proportional to road speed. It doesn't get worse under power, if you put the transmission in neutral the noise remains the same and it doesn't do it if the engine is revved in neutral.
He's had it at the Saab dealers who so far have replaced the tyres for the OE Continental's and one of the wheel bearings which has made no difference at all.
I've been out in it today and I'm pretty certain its not engine noise, it is more like something along the drivetrain. The CV joints aren't noisy during low speed maneouvers. I have noticed that under braking the noise changes, and under harsh braking it all but disappears.
Any ideas?
