Hi all,

I posted in the whiskey thread but wondered if this might get more notice taken of it if I posted here.

My dad is a fan of Powers Whiskey (strong, slightly harsh, and peaty, so I'm told - not that I would know :p) and it's his birthday coming up.

I never drink whiskey and know nothing about it - I've got him the normal Powers in the past but this year it's his 50th and along with his other present, I thought that again I would go with some whiskey, and came across this:

ProductImage.aspx

Powers John's Lane 12 year old single pot still.

Has anyone tried it and can recommend it? Or has anyone tried it and found it awful?!

Or does anyone have any other suggestions for me? As I've already bought him something else I don't want to go much more expensive than this one (£50ish).

He isn't keen on Scotch whisky on the whole, and tends to prefer Irish whiskey.

Thanks in advance all!

Had it whilst in Ireland last year and it's delicious. Much better than the standard Powers Gold.

It's on par with the Midleton Rare, and far more complex than Jameson's 18yo. It's also not the easiest Irish whiskey to find.

I say go for it.

I bought it the other day, it should have arrived today but Parcel Force website still just says "processing" - hopefully should arrive tomorrow!
