Calling all scotch connoisseurs

Need to acquire a nice bottle for the in-laws, for tomorrow evening.

I know they like The Dalmore (15) and Laphroaig Islay single malt but would like to get them something a little more special. Would like to spend about £50 but would go up to £75 if it's really worth it.

EDIT:

I went with the Lagavulin 1997 DE in the end.

Is that just one that you really like or is it one that you think tastes similar to the Dalmore and Laphroaig? I've enjoyed the Balvenie before but from memory it's a just lighter dram than certainly Laphroaig and probably also Dalmore so that's why I'm asking.

Rossi~: just based on the recommendations if you were thinking about ordering online then the Laphroaig 15y/o is probably going to be a fairly safe bet if they like Laphroaig and it's going to be that bit more special. However I'm not a huge fan of Laphroaig so I can't say whether that's a good one or not. Alternatively if you don't want to order online and risk it not getting there in time it's probably worth popping into your local whisky shop (if you have one) and asking them for advice based on the two whiskies you know they do like.

Cheers so far guys. That Lagavulin looks and sounds quite nice.

SPW: Sorry, no Whisky shops around here that i know off. This was unfortunately something that slipped my mind and i've now got myself in a rush.

I don't have time to make a detailed reply at the moment so I'll post one suggestion for now. if I get time later, I'll make a few more suggestions.

I went with the Lagavulin 1997 DE in the end.

I popped to Waitrose at lunch, they had the standard Lagavulin 16, asked if this 1997 DE version was worth going for, and they said it would be (generally, subject to taste of consumer).
It gets good reviews about the place so figured it'd be safe!

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I would definitely recommend the 15 year Laphroaig, but you might struggle with finding it at most retailers aside from a dedicated whisky shop now. The Balvenie Doublewood is a definite option, and the Lagavulin 16 is amazing for the price (£48 at Tesco). For something interesting, the Balvenie Carribean Cask is meant to be good as well. My favourite everyday whisky of all time is the Laphroaig Quarter Cask. It isn't as refined as some of the other whisky's but I've been a fan of it for a long time and I will always have a soft spot for it! It's £32 on special at Asda at the moment.

A 15 yr Redbreast is very very nice and in that price bracket. A little sweet but very nice. The standard agre is special too.

Alternatively, try Green spot or Yellow spot. Borth are stunning still pot whiskies.
Id be happy to get any of those as a gift!

EDIT: 18yr Laphroaig is very special. Lagavulin is tasty too but shop around as the price can vary a lot!!

I hope they like it :)

One of the nicest whiskies I've had. Very complex flavours and a long and tasty finish.

Lagavulin DE seems like an excellent choice. Dalmore's famous for being aged in Sherry casks. Laphroaig is heavily peated.

Lagavulin DE does both but more importantly is a really high grade, well made whisky.
