Whistling monitor

Hi all

I recently bought myself an HP W2228H, which arrived yesterday. Spent all day gawping at it, it looks lovely. But then I turned it off...

While the monitor is turned off, it whistles. It sounds kind of like a kettle, only much quieter, but it's just loud enough to be annoying. If I turn off the power at the plug socket then the whistling stops a few seconds later, but it will start again as soon as I turn the power back on. Anybody heard this before/ know what gives?

We had a bunch of monitors at Uni that did this, but they were old CRT's and it was put down to that. Mind you I never heard them yet around 10% of class did. Seems to be a common thing (google) but no remedies seem to be available.

Right, I might expect it from an old CRT. But this is a brand new LCD. You're right that I should have Googled it though, having done so it looks like a fairly common fault. Looks like I might need to get it changed, how annoying.

probably the switching power supply - NEC pro monitors are notorious for this.

The exact same thing happened with my old hanns G. I jus turned it off at the wall wen i wasnt using it. It was quite reliable for a couple of years until the power supply started producing sparks
