Whistling Noise On Certain Games

This problem only happens on certain games and only during the main menus but I have just got FIFA 15 and it does it on that. During the first few menu screens, a very loud and annoying whistling noise is heard which does go when the game begins.

Intel Core i7-3770k
8gb RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7950

I don't think that my system is to blame as after a few seconds, there is no longer a problem. Other games where it does this include Crysis and Just Cause 2.

I have quite an old set of Logitech 2.1 speakers. Would getting new speakers fix it or do you think there is another reason this happens?

This is known as coil whine and is a common occurrence for many graphics cards and sometimes even other components such as the power supply.

I have heard that setting a max fps limit dulls the noise/fixes it.

It's just luck of the draw weather you get a noisy gpu or not.

If you only hear it during main menus it is due to the stupid high fps you are getting in those scenarios.

Use something like msi afterburner to limit your fps to just above your monitor's refresh rate.

I used to get it on the loading screens for dow 2. I guess its worse with static load screens rather than moving ones.

High quality coils are likely to be of more benefit in preventing coil whine.

In fact having high quality caps and coils is a good idea if you want to prevent other things too.

You can have good quality caps and still get coil whine especially in menu situations where the GPU is pumping out 5000+ FPS. Some situations coil whine won't be avoided.

This happens because the menus are being rendered at 1000 fps
