Whistling sound from new 8800gtx

Hiya

Just bought a new 8800gtx. Installed and tested succesfully. Only problem is that when playing any game i get a high pitched whistling sound from the card. Is this serious? I googled it but only got results about whistling PSU's. Any ideas what it could be? Should i rma the card?

have you plugged in both six pin PCI-E connectors to power the card?

yeah i've got both in.

it works 100% in games. get 100ish fps on hl2 ep2 so i know the card is working okay.

in windows no. only when i load up a game. i've tried with portal and ep2 so far. the whistling goes away when it goes to a loading screen which makes me think it's something to do with when the card has to use 3d.

Sounds like a capacitor or coil coming into audiable range. Either you can RMA or try increasing voltage very slightly on the board to get it out of audiable range.

Are you using vsync? I've heard it was a fairly common problem with the GTX. Never got it with my GTS though.

Mines only beeps when my PC is shut down when the power is cut off, but it's very faint tho, but this is apparently normal.

I've never had that problem running games tho, but i've heard that it's very common.

My GTX has always done it, its not really a problem unless the sound annoys you.

Same my BFG GTX OC always whistles while it works

I only noticed it when I removed the ****** fan and slapped a waterblock on the mutha!

Works a treat though
