"White History Month"

Whilst I see where you're coming from, I'm not sure its your right to suggest that the identity others choose "doesn't exist". Making such statements may show where YOUR moral compass lies, but it isn't much use to the billions of people who believe race is tengible and indelible
 
Why have a "Black History Month" if you don't have the corresponding "Whie History Month" and "Asian History Month".

Smacks of racism to me. Except you cannot be racist towards a white person...
 
It's totally pointless, walk up to any black teenager and tell them it was black history month and they wouldn't even know or care. The vast majority of black youths fall into the chav category and just don't care about education or history!

But having a history month dedicated to a race is stupid. But to be honest, if my recent history was being a slave, I don't think I'd want to make a song and dance out of it....

People can define themselves and exclude others on any basis they wish, real or made up as they please. There's a huge trend for humanity to divide itself into "us and them", with a myriad of different definitions of "us" and "them".

Other people can define their group identity however they want to, with whatever real or imagined divisions they please. I'll continue to point out that those simplistic binary divisions are not real. I certainly have as much right to point that out as people do to promote artificial division and the irrational prejudice that inevitably follows.

And I learnt plenty of British history at school....Medieval history A Level booooM!
 
You know (well you don't but it is a good way to start)

I lived not far from detroit for a while, and through the 'black history month' and to be honest, about 90% of the population there, which is predominantly black, had no interest at all in the cultural aspects of black history month, and more in the 'fsck you whitey, this is our month'. I dont hold any objection to them raising a historical glass to the history of their people, much as I do for my own. The tendancy towards politicising it does cause annoyance, and now, I'm going back under my rock, where it is nice and quiet.

Of course you learnt plenty of history at school. They didn't refer to it as White history did they?

Of course you can be racist toward to white person but nobody (or less) people make such a fuss about it.

I guess my irony was a little too oblique then. ;)

Rather than argue I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I just thought you could have come up with a reasoned response for why I am wrong. Nothing like a good debate.

My reasoned response is using the same reasoning that leads people to say "it's only racism if a white person does it to a black person". Go figure.

And there's nothing like winding people up up in GD. If I wanted good debate I'd go to SC (well...maybe)

And yes I'm white as white can be.

Agreed, I'd also like to see the term 'White hot' banned, as it implies whites are hotter than blacks, which will also have a similar effect on the Brixton youth.
