I'm just off to buy a Macbook for work, the current/new model white one.

However I want to put a SSD HDD in it, probably this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-011-OC&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=910

1. Is it compatible? I've only used PC based laptops before so don't know as much about Macbooks, I assume it's compatible though as the Macbook is intel CPU/Mobo/architecture now rather than Motorola PPC.

2. Is there any utility to copy the image from the OEM drive to the new SD drive, or would it just be easier to put the new drive in and re-install the OS (assuming the Macbook comes with an OS CD/DVD)?

Bone questions I know, but I assume someone here will be able to answer them.

Ta,

Vampire. :)

Hi,

1. I believe you can use one of those SSD disks in a Macbook but I would confirm the dimensions of the new/old disks to confirm it'll physically slot in ok. Not much room to play with inside a macbook!

2. You could put your new disk into an external enclosure and use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable image of the existing system disk to the new one. Once complete just swap in the new SSD drive.

This is not something I have done with my Macbook so I may well be wrong but I don't see any technical reason why it's not possible.
