Is it possible to still get white margarine?

Been using Lurpack unsalted, as it's a off white colour compared to yellow for usual butter, for white butter cream.

Seen it years ago, but I can't find it the supermarket now, does any one still use at a professional level?

Not as you remember it, no. In that respect it's a bit like white dog poo, which you also don't see much these days.

I think Trex is possibly the whitest thing you could use in place of butter, but it's been years since I saw an unwrapped block so for all I know they've changed the recipe and made it look more buttery.

Did not margarine get pulled forever as it is full of trans fats? I don't think you can buy it anymore.
Well, the stuff with trans fats in did, but you can still by margarine from pretty much every supermarket.

Why do you want white margarine?
To make white buttercream.

If I were our intrepid OP, I'd just use butter and white food colouring or a shedload of icing sugar in the mixture. The more you whip it the whiter it'll get, albeit only up to a point.

Vegetable shortening is probably the closest you'll get. Not sure what it'll taste like in buttercream, but I'm guessing mass-produced **** isn't made with butter.

I wanted some pure white buttercream for a cake.

Will have to have a look at some of the butters available & get the palest.

I think (though am not 100%) that President unsalted might be white in colour.
I'm pretty sure that Lurpak is the whitest butter - President definitely has a distinct yellow tinge to it.

Goats butter is usually very white, but Trex would be the best substitute in my book as it ought to be completely white. On the downside it will make the buttercream taste foul without additional flavouring added.

Lurpak Unsalted + Icing sugar + Plenty of elbow grease = white buttercream.

I had a quick look through the butter section in the supermarket last night and goats butter is whiter still, but you ought to get a fairly decent result with Lurpak. And President wasn't actually that far behind in terms of paleness.

If you want really white then Squires Kitchen make a very good white food colouring paste that I use for macarons with great success. Tricky to get hold of on the high street though - eBay or various online cake decorating suppliers would be your best bet.

OK - American Butter is white in color* and is probably your best bet. I am sure there are specialty importers of American foods who can supply.

*Intentional

Here is a picture of some and the sort of colour it is...

Doubtful.

You'd have the devil of a time trying to get butter through Port Health and there's simply not the demand for American butter for it to be worth the hassle.

None of the major American food importers I know even touch the stuff. Crisco all the way for them.
