White sprit to remove cpu paste

Methylated Spirit*, NOT White Spirit. White spirit will leave a residue, meths wont. You should be able to get it in any DIY store, and I've even seen it some larger supermarkets.

*Also known as Rubbing Alcohol, Denatured Alcohol or Isopropyl Alcohol by the yanks (in case you're reading American guides).

I always use Iso (good for cleaning a monitor too when diluted 50/50 with water). You can get it from most pharmacies if you don't want to wait for a delivery.

The real test is that once it's evaporated out of the shot glass I use to hold it when cleaning a processor, there is absolutely no odour left at all.
 
This topic always amuses me. Just rub it off with kitchen towel, or a sock, or whatever. Use a solvent to make it easier if you must. The idea that white spirit will leave 'a film' behind, and that this will impede the function of new thermal compound in any meaningful way is daft. There are many things to worry about in life, the detrimental impacts of using white spirit to clean off TC is not one of them. Got for it.

I'm not sure if I'm reading this wrong or not but it looks to me like your stating Methylated Spirit is also known as other things...

Methylated Spirit is completely different stuff to Rubbing Alcohol, Denatured Alcohol and Isopropyl Alcohol...
 
Ah maybe in the US, but in the UK if you go to say a pharmesy and ask for Rubbing Alcohol and Denatured Alcohol you get a kind of Isopropyl Alcohol you can use for cleaning dressings and medical things :)

Just google 'akasa TIM' for loads of results.

I've found it does a good job at dissolving the TIM even that pinky coloured one that tends to be on cheap stock coolers. Few drops on it, leave it 30sec and it comes off very easy. Not much more to say, does a good job, citrus fresh - jobs a good un :)

Methylated Spirit = ethanol + methanol

Isopropyl alcohol is something different.

Denatured alcohol can consist of a number of alcohols such as ethanol or isopropyl with a poison like methanol.

Most people use Isopropyl Alcohol. It is often used in alcohol wipes which is great because it combines the alcohol with a lint free cloth :D
