White Stripes disbanded.

They were spoiled already before they started.

Cringe worthy watching her.

I'm all for loose drummers with feel. But she played drums just badly with very little musicality and invention.

Dull predictable and uninspired and just bad :p

Its a shame they have stopped, but bands have their moments at the top and sometimes it is best to leave it there. I do enjoy there music and the shows were great, full of energy. As someone else said the first three albums were the best as they were quite simple and clear! I have no idea where they would go with a next records and I think "Jack White" is not someone who will just play old stuff for 20 years of tours!

Maybe I can't identify the crap drumming but I thought it suited the style, the only reason was to try to carry the beat when the guitar was in solo mode!

good band in the midst of the absoloute rubbish that has come out of the past 10+ years. seven nation army, fell in love with a girl and their cover of joelene are great songs, i also thought their glastonbury performance was good too because it was different and against the grain.

why is everyone jumping on the hate band wagon??

cracking band made some great tunes, Elephant gotta be in my top 10 or 15 albums.

Sad to see them end, would have liked to see them live

I liked Jack White in It Might Get Loud. Especially at the start making a Diddley Bo. :D

I have to admit to watching it more for Jimmy Page and I spent a lot of time trying to ignore The Edge - just the amount of rubbish that The Edge carried around to play a damn guitar wound me up, bit Jack White impressed me in it.

Can't say I think that much of the White Stripes though.

Jack White is an incredibly talented musician, and I quite like a number of WS songs.

I think this permanent split will allow Jack to focus on other areas of music, and allow Meg to learn the drums.

Barring Seven Nation Army and perhaps a couple of others, they weren't really a band that ever 'made it' in my view - so their disbanding is a bit of a non-event. I think their issues really lied (at least in part) with the fact that she couldn't drum for toffee :/

I would suggest "making it" is having more than one widely recognisable tune.

Such as Seven Nation Army, Icky Thump, Door Bell, Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground, Conquest etc...

I have heard all of these widely played on national radio stations such as Radio 1 (for what it's worth..) over the years.

Play any of those to anybody who has been exposed to popular music in the past 10 or so years and I reckon they'd remember the tune at least and frankly, you cant expect much more from pop pickers!

So many people on here slating them who have probably only ever heard Seven Nation................ get some albums down your ears and listen to some original music.

Saw them live at Alexandra palace and Leeds Festival, amazing gigs.

Good thing is they have left a massive back catalog of music, released and unreleased.

Top band, and he has done great things with the Raconteurs, two great albums.

Few songs rock as hard as "Black Math". Seeing it live was fantastic, driving home tonight with that on for sure.

+ Blue Orchid, Hotel Yorba, I just don't know what to do with myself, Hardest button to button.

Tunes aside, I think their bluesy vintage sound is instantly recognisable :)

I'm not even a fanatic but this thread alone has brought a really evokes some great spotify additions today :D
