Ahoy hoy,

I need 2 ethernet cables made, I've got the parts and the tools but my fat hands render me uncapable to do it myself :(

Does anyone in the Essex or Ealing area have the knowledge and experience in making them?

I'd really appreciate the help guys (and girls?!)

Cat5 or 6 heads?

If Cat5, are you using the ones with the handy guides?

Take an inch off the sheath, get them all in the correct order, cut off the excess and pop them in carefully.

Cat 5, and I have used the guides.
Its the last bit where you insert them that I'm having trouble with :(

I've got fat fingers and manage it, just takes some practice and a few tricks.

I cut off the top, pull a bit and wiggle, get all the cables straight then using cutters I get them in the right order snip, then you can wiggle some more so I helps them stay in place or using the cutters genitally to hold the cables in place. Plug goes into the crimping tool then push fairly quickly.

Just play around you will get the nack of it..

the trick is trimming them when you have them in the right order and not letting go once trimmed flat, then just offer up the cables to the plug and push.

thats how I used to do it, I think I must have made 1000's of the bloody things for one project or another, we used to pride ourselves on delivering made to measure cabinets, in fact here is one (of the many) racks I built back in the day

i would excuse the picture but thats nearly ten years old so my camera phone was doing quite well :p

Me, it's not hard as long as you have some cable, crimp tool and some nipples as we call them in the industry :)

There a loads of guides on the web including color charts on the layout

I travel to Teddington quite often ;)
If I have trouble reckon you could help me? There is a nice pub on the High Street for your troubles :D

I am in essex and I can do it, I'll do if you pay for transport and buy me some beers.

Where abouts are you both based?

That is how I also do them makes getting the cable into the head threads a lot easier!

Nice rack you got there Will lol :D

Cut back the outer sleeving.
Untwist and line up the individual wires.
Use scissors to trim them to length while keeping them in order.
Push them into the socket and use crimper.

Nothing to it. ;)

Do I have to do anything different for Cat6 heads? Have done Cat 5 plenty for work but need to start making some Cat6 now.
I can google but worth checking if anyone's got a link to a reputable guide? :)

I don't believe fat hands can stop you making an ethernet cable.

Pictures of fat hands required with something to provide a reference scale.
