My insurance is up for renewal in early June and had a renewal quote through the post today from my current insurer (Sainsburys) at just over £450

I've only had the car (2010 A5 Sportback S-Line TFSI 211) since February and when I got it the cost to swap from my last car (V50 1.6 dS) was £20 odd which, at the time, they said was "mostly admin charges as the price is virtually the same"

The Volvo was just under £350 so £100 or so increase. I was expecting some increase, but this seems a little much. A confused.com comparison has got it to around £350 (which I'm quite happy with) but I also tried a require or a stage 1 ECU remap which added £100. It got me thinking of any other smaller / specialist insurers I could try to get a similar price with a ECU remap as I'm very tempted for the 5-10% fuel efficiency increase and the added bonus of a nice BHP increase :P

So who do you use or any recommendations?

Cheers :)

When my civic was remapped the car basically cost no more to insure, maybe £30-40 a year even with the mainstream insurers (admiral for me). The specialist guys were either not interested as it wasn't a performance car or couldn't compete - Just have a hunt around I guess

"Premium Choice" are currently coming out cheapest on confused at £350 with the next 5 within £30 but with remap added as an option it's a minimum of £100 increase, including Admiral :s

I've just tried a quote with Adrian Flux and awaiting the response but any more suggestions would be welcomed :)

Aviva were actually reasonably competitive when I changed the current policy over onto the 330 (checked incase it was worthwhile starting a new policy), it's modified though only with some ghastly wheels - still worth a try

I've been with Swinton since 2011 and they've been great. They've given me £350 and £250 cashbacks respectively for each year, bringing my premiums down to about £500 where other insurers want £700 to £800.

RSA, but don't forget to ring Direct Line as they don't use comparison services.
Don't buy into the Huge Excess = Cheaper Premium fib, either. In my experience, a £500-1000 increase to the excess will not be worth the £20-60 difference in ANNUAL premium!

I have been with Swinton in the past, ill try them later today - thanks

Brentacre, very good for modified/specialist cars.

Cheers - another one to give a try

Snake oil. Remaps give you more performance, the mpg 'benefit' is negligable despite peoples claims to the contrary :p

Do it for the BHP not the MPG.

never really thought of the performance side of it ;)

Try calling Adrian Flux, Sky and Greenlight, good chance they'll beat the price comparison sights on something modified.

Ive done an online - ill see what they come back with - thanks

Adrian Flux. Had to play the insurers off against each other a few times to get the price down but worked a treat and Flux were the lowest of the bunch.

Cheers mate

Sky insurance with 20% owners club discount. Worked out about £120 cheaper to insure my R32 than it did my old passat with LV!

Worth checking to see if there is any owners club you can sign upto online that have agreements with various insurers for discount.
