at home, you?
iv decided over the past few days that even though im waiting on funds in the next few weeks to build my new rig, so the old one will be split and sold, already got rid of one 5770, now while im waiting for my funds, iv decided my current rig needs to be a bit faster, so i checked out my system to find i have almost filled my 250gb c: drive, so.....time to backup my data onto one of my other drives, then the thing i dread the most, my steam games backup, i started this a while ago, got about 20 games, im on the first game of the 4 main games i play, and decided to leave the others for another time and just re-download them, i never realised how much utter crap i have installed on my pc over the year since its last formatting cycle, (i tend to do it once or twice a year), does anyone else hate the moment when you realise its time to do it.....

It's a pretty mundane process but my OS is installed on a 32GB SSD so it's not overly frustrating when it needs to be done.

Do people still reformat that often? I haven't formatted my work laptop for years and it's still fresh as a daisy.

It's rare that I do it, but I usually forget to set USELVM to yes in rc.conf resulting in a system that won't boot in to the OS. That's always a pain. :o

I spend enough time at work building machines so I'm really not motivated enough to do it on my own time. My laptop is seriously unwell at the moment, the wifi keeps dying and only a reboot brings it back but I keep putting up with it because I CBA reinstalling just to find out whether it's a hardware or software issue.

I definitely need to reinstall. My OS has gotten so fat and bloated, but the thought of reinstalling everything just puts me off. That and the fact my oem win7 can't take another reactivation. Roll on win8. I'll do it then.

i only do mine every 2/3 years, im runnin on an ssd now so its not to much ball ache
I use to do mine about every 2 months

I don't seem to need to do a format much now am using windows 7 (Guess it shows just how crap xp & vista were compared to w7 )

surely you can still activate it, a phonecall to microsoft will sort it

Use to do it quite a lot (every few months) way back when I had more enthusiasm working with PCs but now it's just a chore so I'll only do it if I have. That'll usually only be when it's been over a year and something has gone seriously bad.

Would be nice to have a disk image making it all seamless but it didn't work out the last time I tried it.

I've been wanting to do it for ages but theres too much software that i cant risk not working afterwards. Not to mention my msdn account will no longer let me log in so i have no idea if my Win7 would work again or not :o

I really need to make a system image of my perfect W7 start up, and put it on a USB drive or something.
