I skip gears all the time on the way and when slowing down I'll often go from whatever gear I'm in down to 1st or 2nd (with use of clutch and brake, not using the engine to slow down, the thing would explode if I went straight from 5th to 2nd to slow her down!).

But in response to the original question, no, there are no gears that I never use. They all have a time and place where they suit the way I drive.

I generaly use all the gears.

Except for when then a cook the gearbox on my old Vento and I was left with just 3rd (I couldn't even get neutral). Since I was skint at the time I drove it 20 miles to get a second hand box fitted.

It was quite odd cruising about a 45, makes it even harder to work out why old poeple who drive at a constant 40 slow down for every corner.

i never use 4th, if im comming into slip road i just accelerate in 3rd and stick it straight into 5th. slowing down to junction straight from 5th to 2nd then 1st if needed. if comming to roundabout ill put it into 3rd from 5th

Fair enough, 5th on that would be something like 2nd on any normal car


I use all my gears, don't like missing them out, car either redlines too much or doesn't slow properly (I use engine breaking a lot).
