Hey guys just wondering who here has been in a bad crash, i'll start with mine

Coming up for 2years ago when i was working with my dad doing marble work we had a contract for flooring in Bodmin whilst also working in St. Ives, this involved a lot of driving and hard work as our stupid boss overlapped our contracts. Anyway we ended up working throgh the day in St. Ives then driving to Bodmin and work through the night then back to St. Ives etc etc

I had not passed my test at this point so was left with my dad to drive. We had just finished the job in Bodmin and was driving home (St. Keverne) for the 1st time in about a 1 1/2 weeks, both of us completly shattered i was fast asleep without my seatbelt on (stupid i know) anyway we was just under 3/4 miles from home and my dad must have fallen asleep at the wheel coz the next thing i was doing was screaming, i had somehow hit my back on the dashboard and broke it, while my dad had broke 2 ribs and knocked out his top teeth.

What had happened after talking to dad, he said he was drifting off and the van was labouring, at a Y junction we went straight up an embankment into a castiron signpost

Ouch what speed do you reckon you were doing when you hit the post?

just asked dad and he seems to think around 30mph as he said it was laboring. If u ask me seems a lot for just 30mph but then i dont know what a van would look like at 30 + he was drifting in and out of sleep

idiots. both of you.

you for not wearing a seatbelt, your dad for driving whilst tired and putting his own son's life in danger. Appauling!

Yup i agree, but come to think of it, in a way it had saved my dads life as he had an aortic aneurysm at the time which had been undetected before the crash, if it wasn't for the crash it may had split costing my dad his life

Makes me think sometimes, that do certian things happen for a reason?

Whoah, you were very lucky
Were you thrown out of the van during the crash? Are you still suffereing from your injuries or have you made / will you make a full recovery?

Back in November 2002, I was driving along an A road at about 60mph. It was a wet night but not that bad. I was approaching a petrol station on my left and could see about 4 cars waiting to come out of the petrol station onto the main road. Just as I drew level with the entrance to the filling station, the first car pulled out of the exit and stopped dead in the road. I hit the brakes but it was far too late to even slow down a bit, before I knew it I slammed into the side of the car at about 50mph. When I realised I was screwed, by pure instinct (probably due to my motox days) I jumped upwards from the bike. Luckily enough the bike took the impact and I was catapulted over the car, catching my right knee on the roof. I landed the other side of the car and skidded down the road to a halt. Next thing I knew someone was trying to pull my helmet off but was stopped (thankfully) by a police biker who had been in the filling station. I was carted off to hospital where they put my right kneecap back into place as it was round the side of my leg. I had badly bruised my back and had some cuts and gashes but apart from that I was fine.

According to the police biker who seen it happen, had I not have jumped I'd probably be dead now. When you're told things like that it really hits home. It turned out the silly bint who was driving the fiesta had had one drink too many:mad: It's a good job the policeman was there because she tried to drive away while I was lying in the road

These things happen though, all part of driving I suppose. Best of luck with your recovery if you haven't already made it :)

Na wasn't thrown out just a bit back to front in the van, ive made as good a recovery as i can but in the cold its agony with constant lower back pains :(

Woah seems u was damn luck aswell mate, i hope the drunk bint got what she deserved. and i agree its not nice when someone tells u that u was this close to being dead/paralyzed.
