Hi, this may sound like a stupid question but none the less its making my head hurt.

We have a broadband line for a welfare facility at work which is provided by an outside company, the connection has failed and the router is locked down with some random password.
If i ring 150 the phone tells me its not allowed to call from this phone.
I have spoken to BT and they have said the line is not with them and they cannot tell me who it is with.

I've been asked to get it up and running again as the outside company dont like to answer phones but i dont know where else to turn for info as the link is already down i cannot get onto speedtest or the like to identify the ISP.

Can you do a Whois on your IP and see which company it belongs too?

http://www.ip-address.org/

How is he going to do that if he has no connection?

@op - see if there's a recessed "reset" button on the router somewhere, hold it in and power off/on the router and it might reset the router to it's default access password, if you let us know the router model I'm sure someone can find what the default admin password should be.

Likely its an LLU line to talktalk or sky/a n other

Try samknows and enter the number see which companies are unbundled in your exchange

Id have thought bt should have been able to tell you though, it must have been theirs at some point

try @btcare on twitter for uk based help

Thanks for the response guys, will have a look at the cookies tomorrow and see if i can pull anything useful from them.

Have tried the usual reset stuff and even tried hacking the router with some tools backtrack.

Trouble is if i hard reset the router it will lose the BB username and password so i will still be at square one.

The outside company is on a mobile number that's running to voicemail.

I think wonder_lander is on the money here, you need to find some correspondence from the 3rd party, an e-mail or invoice which will tell us more. Either that or find someone at the office who remembers when it was installed and can tell you more.
