So im living with my partner ( unmarried ) and we have an 11 year old.

I have children from previous marriage - now divorced - eldest child 21.

Mum and Dad still alive.

I dont have a will as yet so if i get run over by a bus tomorrow ( hopefully i wont ) then who will be my legal next of kin and who will be expected to arrange my funeral and sort all the stuff out?

It's basically whoever you want to take responsibility if you pop your clogs, it could be your closest living relative, your partner, or even your eldest kid.

It's based on something called Intestacy and you can do a quick multiple choice quiz on the gov.uk site to see who it would be.

Took the words right out of my mouth!

I am not familiar with British law. Here in Germany all your children inherit your property
and all children will inherit equally. Arranging your funeral might be your partner's business,
maybe assisted by your eldest child and your parents.
I strongly recommend to settle all questions long before you get run over by a bus - the sooner,
the better. It's not easy to deliberate on your own death, however having clear rules and regulations
will make live of your family much easier and less painful in case you really die.

Stay healthy and lead a fulfilled life!

That sounds like it would be a right mess to sort out without a will.
Im inclined to agree. My 2 eldest dont seem to want to know despite my best efforts.

So with that in mind i dont really want anything going to them and im sure they wouldnt want the hassle of sorting my funeral out. I want my partner to take care of stuff.

There should be some life insurance to sort funeral epxpenses and any surplus i want to go to my partner, and my 3 youngest kids.

Im guessing ill need a solicitor to get a will done.
