I searched and couldn't find a thread like this so I'll just make a new thread.

In my opinion there isn't enough attention payed to the quality of acting in films nowadays, going almost unmentioned in film discussions.

So let me start off the thread with my favourite actor, young Adrien Brody:

His extraordinary acting talent, intelligence, charisma and strikingly good looks combine to make him arguably the best actor to ever grace our screens. Many of you have probably seen his mesmerizing performance in The Pianist (2002), but if you haven't, you MUST see this film. Adrien's breathtaking performance will leave you gasping for more, he certainly had me glued to my seat! ;)

Here he is with the oscar he won for The Pianist, as the youngest man to ever win an oscar:

A few quotes from the man himself:

Adrien Brody said:
I think to be a well-rounded person, you have to experience good and bad, wonderful moments and pain. You need to meet people who have no exposure to kindness, who lack any opportunity and have no way out--like the homeless, the mentally ill--and you've got to learn empathy for them.
Adrien Brody said:
I've never taken a role for money. I felt it would be wrong - not necessarily a career decision - just wrong.
Adrien Brody said:
(Upon being described as "a young Al Pacino") "I'm a young Adrien Brody, thanks."

Go on, share your favourite actors and actresses! :D

Don't really have one...

I like a massive range of actors and actresses.

Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Sean Connery, Patrick Stewart, Kate Beckinsale, Rose McGowan, Julie Dench... literally tons and tons.

Geez.... I love movies.

In recent times I think Dicaprio has done some great performances and I love Christopher Walken in pretty much anything he's been in. Actresses is trickier for me as it's tough not to assign them extra kudos for eye-candiness...

The two performances I've been most impressed with recently are

Carey Mulligan in An Education

Aaron Johnson in Nowhere Boy

Both young British actors, one male, one female.

She is brilliant, can't wait to see that. Only seen her in the Dr Who episode "Blink" but she was just fantastic in it. Same as when I saw Sophia Myles in "The Girl In The Fireplace" actually.

Edward Norton

Versatile, charismatic, and comes across as pretty level-headed in real life. Absolutely stunning in American History X.

Edward Norton is an excellent shout! Brilliant in Fight Club, absolutely love that film!

I'd also say Robert Carlyle, thought he was really good in 28 Weeks Later, but was also excellent in Trainspotting, The Beach and The 51st State :D

EDIT: He was also amazing in the lesser known "Hitler: The Rise of Evil"

I could say Brian Cox (The Escapist), Judi Dench (anything!), Juliette Binoche, and the list grows. Could I pick one? No.

Di Caprio, Johnny Depp, and Tom Hanks for me, all seem to give fantastic performances in all their films.

For the ladies I'm struggling like some of the others, to look beyond the eye candy factor at geniuinely good actors, Judi Dench is an obvious choice.
