I thought deciding on a GPU was hard... then I recently looked into monitors. Holy crap.

TN vs IPS vs 144hz vs Gsync vs Freesync and it's exhausting trying to decide who's opinion to go with. A lot of people are split. I know what I want, but would love a majority opinion on Overclockers if possible. I mainly play new AA games like Far Cry: Primal and Just cause 3 and Rainbow Six: Siege and most new car games that come out.

At the moment I game on a GTX 970 and I'm happy with that... but I need to buy a new monitor because my current one broke.

My budget is roughly 320 quid, and it needs to be 27" 1440p. Also please keep in mind that I hope to keep this monitor for 5+ years, so I'll upgrade my GPU at the end of 2016 at some point for 1440p.

The one I really, really, reeeaally love is the Asus MX27AQ (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-designo-mx27aq-27-2560x1440-ips-widescreen-ultra-slim-bezel-led-monitor-space-grey-with-bang-mo-081-as.html). It just looks stunning. It ticks 144hz, it ticks 1440p, it ticks IPS... Of course, no Gsync is ruining it for me and I have no idea about priorities. Should no gsync ruin it for me?

IPS is great when you get a good panel. Unfortunately most of the 144Hz panels around aren't... or at least you enter in to one big lottery when buying them. I went through x4 Acer XB270HU's before giving up due to horrendous light bleed and/or dirt under the panel, but coming from 60Hz I certainly did appreciate the faster panel and G-Sync, so it is worth it... but not at the expense of BLB or any other faults which are simply unacceptable on a premium priced monitor. Besides, you won't get 1440p IPS 144Hz for anywhere near £390 unless something appears on B-grade. North of £500 is what you're looking at for one of those. The Acer MG279Q is around £450, but that's Freesync.

If I was going to buy a monitor now that I was keeping for 5 years, then I would spend more and get the best monitor possible.

Your 390 budget is still a bit low for your requirements.

Do you want freesync/gysnc? Well since you have a 970, then I suggest you seriously consider getting a gsync monitor. Where sync monitors are great is that you can get longer life out of your graphics card because games feel smooth even at low frame rates.
