who remembers this?

yer i played it, it was good fun (railgun+vampire). also king of the hill, headhunters, catch the chicken, instagib and rocket arena..

q2 was a good game, i remember a lot of folk didn't want to move on to newer games.. long enough that gameplay pushed us out.

I played q2 since it came out with my 200mhz MMX and voodoo1 all the way up til about 2 years ago. Excellent game.

Played Q2 online for 6 years solid.
Used to play on the old Wireplay servers then later on Fusters, got into KOTS2000 in a big way and was very highly ranked etc, also played Jump a fair bit was rubbish at it. :)
I tried Q3Arena, thought it was awful, Q4 was marginally better but none of them hold a candle to Q2, imo the best online game ever.

:D

Loved Quake2 - played it on Wireplay from early '98 through to 2001. Lithium wasn't my fave mod - I'd usually only play it if other servers were full/empty. Still good fun tho.

Quake2 will always be my favorite on-line game because of the Wireplay community. Q3A (and even Q4) were better games, IMO, but didn't have the same sense of community. Q3A on Jolt was pretty good and had a great bunch of people. Q4 multi is superb, but nobody plays it :(

Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but for some reason I did a search on Wireplay and this popped up.

Funny in that I played Q2 on Wireplay in 1998 as well for a fair old while. I got dragged away by EQ eventually, but still remember a lot of the clans that were around in those days: CoG (my baby), HooDs, NL, SEX, FRE, AL, Z, LL, the list goes on.....when the 'net was new and everything was amazing :D

O the memories =]

I started playing Quake 2 back in '97 soon after I joined a clan called Alliance [AL]. In '98 I then joined COG, LL and RV for TDM, which to be honest was the most fun that i've had to date with any game.

When I wasn't TDMing it, I was often found on the duel servers ( which I was admin, for a few years ). Was awesome staying up until god knows what hour dueling everyone and anyone.

Best gaming times of my life and nothing has come close.

Lithium was not too bad but honestly i prefered Rail arena, this mod was so fun playing in lan with mates :) that was for entertaining mods of course

The real mods for me were, Q2CTF and Rocket Arena, Xs4All servers that was awesome ;) got heavily into leagues for Q2CTF i remember the skill level at savage league was so high, team work was so cool, going to get ammos and techs for defense etc..

Xs4All is still running i might just give it a bash again some day!

hehe, I was one of the four founding fathers of CoG - I came up with the name :D man, that was a long time ago. I still chat to one of the AL guys in EQ2/AoC (Rex) - not heard from any of the ex-CoG folk for a long time now. I remember your name from visiting the CoG website after I handed things over to Ares (Mesc/Rob) and Aph. It was all EQ's fault :)

Who was you, Guardian?

Yep I joined CoG when Rob / Anna took over. I'm Still hanging out in the irc #cog channel. Often old faces dropping by. Do You remember E^Z / Maximum? well he still hangs out in the channel aswell.

I remember Rexter, sound bloke. Last time I spoke to him was when Q3 came out.

EQ took a lot of old q2'ers back in the day =[

Yeah, I was Guardian :D

I remember E^Z too - he joined not long before EQ took over my life, if I remember correctly. I still keep in touch with a few of the old WP Q2ers...not as many as I used to, but a good half dozen or so :)

Holy Wars and Catch the Chicken!!!!

Good times.

Loved Catch the Chicken, doubt if there are any servers running now though.
Are there many Q2 servers still running (Fusters) ?
A friend of mine started his own server (Mart1001), he used to design his own maps too and was very good at it, he did an awesome Pacman style map, wonder if he's still running ?
What vers. is Q2 on, still 3.21 (or was it 3.20) ?
I remember a guy called Orange who was very good, started his own server too.

Might have to dig out my copy and have a go, not sure if i still have my old autoexec.cfg though, i'll never remember all those console commands !! Oh well, only one i'll need is fov 120 :)

I recall playing this and Halflife on Dial up where you would shoot then half a second later the gun would react. I got in the knack of going round corners and shooting half sec before turning it. Got one or two frags.

Half life was the first fps with decent lag compensation. Maybe in quake 2 but no chance you were playing half life like that
