Took deliver of my new tubing today.

I've got as Asetek setup that I've mofidifed over the years with the latest additions being a Thermochill 3 fan radiator.

I thouught it would be a good idea to replace the original Asetek 10mm/7mm tubing with some generic 10mm/8mm tubing as it was getting decidedly horrible and quite stiff. Also going to a slightly larger innerdiameter can only help.

When I took all the kit apart I had a look inside the CPU waterblock and was a litttle surprised with what I found.

It's a carp catcher

On removing the lid I saw this... Yum Yum. This was stuck in the groves

The other main issue I have is the state of the waterblock lid. It has a lot of stress cracks in it. The photo doesn't do it justice. I'ts got more in it that you can see clearly.

Asetek do a replacement lid but finding one is like looking for rocking horse ****. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on one or as last resort get an equally good performing 10mm CPU Waterblock

Thanks

Fully starred please :)

I use a Swiftech Apogee GT with 10/8 compression fittings and the performance is pretty good, I picked it up barely used for £15. It's almost certain to be better than your current block.

I don't know about watercooling but if I was you I would completely star out those swearies.

Hmmm... As you can see from the number of posts on this forum I'm fairly new here. I take it people are very sensitive in this forum to such things.

Anyway post duly ammended

Re the question on number of holes. Water goes in centre hole and comes out both the side holes.

Regarding the stress fractures in the waterblock lid, here's a better picture

Theres 3 holes for tubes on that?? how does that work? 2 in and 1 out? or 1 in 2 out. Seems a bit strange :S

One into the centre and two out to the sides which are attached to a splitter which combines them again.

I've now ordered an Apogee GTX, should arrive Thursday.

I managed to find a new lid from a supplier in Canada but they wanted $63 for shipping a .1Kg item.

I was reading on Swiftech's website that they recommend introducing a bow through the fitting of a 3mm o-ring rather than the 2.6mm o-ring. Anyone here don that and noticed a difference in temps.

Final question for the time being. How tight should I fit this thing. I'm used to screwing down the Asetek block as tight as I can get it which is screws in all the way till they hit the stops. Is this necessary with the GTX or do they need to be treated a little gentler and be fitted and tightened with a little more subtlety

Actually I did notice your newness to the forum, and my comment was not due to my sensitivity that I mentioned it, it was due to the fact that I thought this was going to be an interesting thread, so I thought I would let you know, as you were new here that swearies have to be fully starred out or the mods will pounce on ya. :)

On Topic:
As for the stress fractures do you think that might have been caused by:
screwing down the Asetek block as tight as I can get it
?

No Probs Biffa, cheers for the heads up.

Re the stress fractures being a symptom of me ratcheting down the block, quite possible for some of them. The majority of fractures however are around and eminating from the pipe fittings. To be fair I'm from the school of thought that you tighten up the ****** ( he!! he!! ) as much as you can without buckling the motherboard to maximise the contact the the CPU IHS.

Any Swiftech owners care to share their experiences / practices before the new block arrives tomorrow afternoon ( Hopefully ).

Thanks.
