Slow connections are but a distant memory for me. Since the heady days of 1998 I've been on some form of fast(ish) internet connection. It's easy to lose touch with the common man in cases like this. So, answer me this; does anyone actually still use an old fashioned squawking box to get their fill of news and naked ladies?

Do we still need the ridiculous "(56k warning!)" suffixes on a thread whenever somebody posts a couple of 30Kb images of their cat with a remote control balanced on its head?

Perhaps we could have a poll?

  • I live in 1995/in the outer Hebrides and use a modem.
  • I'm a true modern man with a connection befitting my standing in society.

Well some people can't get Broadband in their area.

However I do also get annoyed when someone posts two or three medium sized images and places

"56k users no no go boil the kettle lol lol" in the thread title.

They seem to think that 56k modems are incapable of downloading images.

People like this don't deserve the information superhighway in their backwater towns and should be ostracised.

Some people live too far from the broadband exchange, or not in an area which is cabled

So yes, there are people undoubtedly on dial-up

I "downgraded" to 56k in 1997 from a leased line into Telehouse that I had for a number of years previous.

Never again. Was on BB as soon as I could get it, which would have been about 1999 IIRC!
