Tried searching but '.mac' causes problems. Who uses it, and what does it actually do? Can't google for the same reasons I can't search here. Seems interesting from what I can read.

Cheers

I use it abit - for a simple website/blogsite with iWeb, the gallery features from iPhoto and the iDisk, easily store and write files on there, especially when I've got some coursework and I forgot my USB stick (I know I can email myself but I can also use my iDisk if it is larger than 10MB (limited by hotmail)

I also use the .mac email, more personal stuff.

One thing I like about .Mac is the 10GB space which I can allocated however amount for website/photos or just use it purely for emails.

It's okay for simple stuff + integrated with the OS for £50 per year. I'll start learning more HTML and the likes and look for a better webhost before bringing my website on there instead of the .Mac (with my domain) - it is somewhat slower than the average site.

Can you hotlink to files on your .mac server? I can't do that with my current hosting.

How easy is it to point your domain at that space too?

Cheers

I never tried hotlinking files before, I might give it a go with a .jpeg later tonight :)

As for "how easy" to point domain to .Mac, it depends on your domain tools, I was with some crappy site and it didn't support DNS(?), so I had to transfer over to Reg123 and do it from there, took 48hours for the domain to be refreshed, basically changed my domain's pointing to .mac's and through iWeb, you follow the steps and you'll be fine - almost fool proof (I'm kinda a fool in terms of domain/DNS/forwarding websites and using them tools.

Would appreciate you giving the hotlinking a go :)

I'm with 123reg at the moment, and it was fairly easy to point it at my freehostia space. They're a bit stingy with max file sizes and the like, so if .mac is more charitable I might shift over, or at least try the trial.
