Who uses their laptop as a HTPC ?

How do you do it ?

Do you buy a USB tv tuner then buy a remote control ?

If you could explain what you have done (i know some people here do it) that would be great. I might have a spare laptop that ideally could be a HTPC for me. Even if i did only play some dvd's/divx on it.

I use my laptop as an HTPC, but I use a client/server model. The laptop, like many of my other machines, is used for viewing while an old desktop equipped with a TV tuner card and a bunch of hard disks lives in the cellar. I stream everything over the network. I think it's rather cool.

i sometimes use mine as a HTPC with a hauppauge USB TV tuner and remote that come with it. altho no DVI means max resolution of 1024x768. its great for playing DivX movies.

So do you use windows media centre in XP/Vista ? Or is there some alternative software?
