okay i understand that 1080i HD has the resolution of 1920x1080 and that 720p is 1280x720 (correct me if i'm wrong). However, if a monitor with a high enough resolution was connected via vga rather than dvi-d or hdmi the resolution would remain the same - therefore could this still be considered the equivalent of hd?
Is it just that due to dvi and hdmi being digital feeds they allow a slightly purer signal to your monitor and hence a better image at the same res?
I suppose what i'm asking is whether 1080 720 and 480 hd are purely a reference to resolution or is there another factor in conjunction with resolution for something to be classified hd
